Bill Doggett: “Honky Tonk Popcorn/Honky Tonk”
-so Bill Doggett writes this quite funky tune “Honky Tonk” (as sampled by the Beatnuts for “Are You Ready?”) and then he meets James Brown and the Godfather Of Soul is inspired to write “Honky Tonk Popcorn”. to add to the glory both tunes are put on one 45 on the King Label. now my favourite is “Honky Tonk Popcorn” as it is an instant dancefloor-hit, damn funky and has this quite long stop towards the end that has the dancing crowd (and sometimes DJs who play it) surprised as it it ain’t over yet. excellent!-
