V/A: “Funk Mode”
-now to begin with I’d like to worry about how everything that’s somewhat groovy stuff from around 30 years ago is suddenly called Funk. this compilation is good, but it’s more a easy listening-big band-jazzy compilation. don’t call it Funk Mode then. don’t subtitle it “undiscovered funk gems…”. this might be rare shit but again, why claim it to be Funk?! don’t you know your music, or was this some lazy exec at the label?! seriously, people, what the fuck?!
now, as I said, this is a good record. the highlights were actually released beforehand on a 45: “Old Man” by the Blackbusters and the wonderful “Put Everything Together” by Plus. the tracks come from all over Europe and one is from Brazil (Jose Roberto “Aventura”), so altogether it’s a nice compilation with a whole lotta Big Band Jazz, Soundtrack Stuff and Uptempo Easy Listening. and no Funk actually. except for the beautiful track by Plus. so check it out and decide for yourself!-
