V/A: “Yo! Hot Latin Funk From El Barrio”
-found in Lisbon at “Kingsize” record store, this is a actually not a pure funk compilation, since there are mostly some very nice latin-Jazz tunes on there as well, like Mongo Santamaria’s take on “Sing A Simple Song”. but if “Funk”‘s the word of the day, whatever. my favourite tune on here is “Yroco” by Jimmy Sabater for it’s change of groove alone. also there’s some nice stuff by Joe Bataan, Pete Rodriguez, Eddie Palmieri With The Harlem River Drive, and many more. a very fine compilation, just drop the “Funk” in the subtitle and exchange it with “Music”. but maybe that’s just me…-
